Cheap DIY Welding Gas Aquarium Co2 Setup

Aquarium Co2 is often costly but essential for optimum plant growth in the aquarium. But it doesn't have to be expensive...

Standard Co2 canisters designed for aquarists are often expensive, with prices around £50 per kilo. Whilst a fire extinguisher setup is more economical for larger tanks, welding gas is more suitable for small to medium size aquariums where cabinet space is limited. With welding gas prices at around £10-15 per 600g it is a great cost effective solution to Co2 injection.

What you will need:
- Co2 Regulator (if you need to get one make sure it has a solenoid valve, it saves a lot of hassle in setting co2 levels!)
- Welding gas adaptor, available HERE
Extras (if you don't have them already)
- Bubble counter (to set the desired level of Co2, usually around 1-2 bubbles per second)
- Air line
- Co2 diffuser
- Non-return valve
- Co2 test kit
Setup
This is a very simple effortless process. Firstly screw the welding gas adaptor onto your Co2 regulator and then screw the canister into the adaptor (remember not to over tighten!) and then your set! Make sure to check the pressure of the canister and around the join for any leaks e.t.c. Then adjust the amount of Co2 to the desired level with the knob on the regulator. Once the canister is finished just take it off and screw in another.
